Augustinian Community(ACO) Foundation is a non-profit making organization registered under section 10 of the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Act in the republic of Kenya. Its membership includes Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan. The main aim of the Foundation is to promote environmental protection and natural resources conservation in East Africa and later in the whole of Africa.

The motivation behind this initiative is the fact that we are living in a dirty environment more especially in Ong’ata Rongai, Kiserian, and Ngong towns in Kajiado North sub-county.

Therefore, Visual pollution, Air pullution, Water pullution, and Soil pollution is quite evident. The main contributing factor is the increasing urban population which has made the demand for food and other essentials rise, hence causing the amount of waste being generated daily by each household to increase. However, not all of this solid waste gets collected and transported to the final dumpsites. To make matters worse even the solid waste that has found its way to the final dumpsites  which are not even legal is not scientifically disposed. Apart from solid waste also effluent waste is emenace being released raw into roads and water streams more especially in our immediate towns of Ong’ata Rongai, Kiserian, and Ngong. When the management and disposal is improperly done, it can cause serious impacts on health and environmental degradation in general. Thus we felt as a group we can begin doing something more especially to focus in “Participatory Environmental Empowerment and Capacity Building”. That is why though our focus will be in East Africa, the beginning point is in Kenya and specifically to be piloted in Kajiado County, Kajiado North sub-county, Ong’ata Rongai town consisting of two administrative wards of Nkaimurunya and Ong’ata Rongai covering an area of 27 Km2.
