6) DIRECTORATE OF SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTAL ADVOCACY

This directorate works to influence policy in social, economic, political and cultural spheres in order to bring about positive change in environmental sustainability. It will provide afavourable platform for the public to be protected from environmental hazards and individuals protect the natural environment. This directorate seeks to ensure that people, particularly those who are most vulnerable in society, are able to: Have their voice heard on environmental issues that are important to them; Defend and safeguard their environmental rights; Have their environmental views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives. This is because, environmental advocacy is a process of supporting and enabling people to: Express their  environmental views and concerns, Access environmental information and services, Defend and promote their environmental rights and responsibilities, and Explore environmental choices and options for optimal gain.

Environmental advocacy can include many activities that a person or organization undertakes for example media campaigns, public speaking, commissioning and publishing research, conducting exit poll, the filing of an amicus brief, lobbying legislators. The programs under this directorate are largely categorized as policy advocacy, corporate advocacy, and public advocacy.
