Climate Change and Social Justice Program

This program addresses the challenges of climate change and the ability of a community to develop processes and structures which not only meet the needs of its current members but also support the ability of future generations to maintain a healthy community. The Western Australia Council of Social Services (WACOSS) defines Social sustainability as when the formal and informal processes; systems; structures; and relationships actively support the capacity of current and future generations to create healthy and livable communities. Characteristics of such communities are: Equitability; Diversity; Connectedness; Inclusive democracy; Provision of good quality of life; Everyone’s basic needs are met; Everyone is respected and valued in society; Everyone has equal rights within the community; Everyone has equal access to education and health services.

The program team is committed to:Help social agencies, business and organizations raise awareness about social needs; Engage both citizens and community partners in responding to these needs; Improve policies that relate to the well being of citizens.
